Often, when you’ve taken massive positive action and are busting through your comfort zone, it’s not uncommon to all of a sudden experience doubt, confusion, resistance, sadness and fear.
In the coaching industry, we refer to this as resistance and “backlash.” It’s actually quite common and par for the course. It’s because you’re stepping out in new, exciting and profound ways that these feelings are coming to the surface.
It’s easy to thinking something is “wrong,” but actually you should get “excited!” Although it may feel uncomfortable, you’re moving in the right direction and getting closer to your desires.
There’s no doubt on some level it’s “scary” even though you’re making great strides and moving towards your dreams. The unfamiliar is always a little unnerving.
So, what should you do? It’s easy to want to gather new information, but now’s not the time to do more or overload yourself.
Here are 5 easy tips to overcome burnout, backlash and resistance and move into a powerful new space:
1. Ask Empowering Questions
Asking powerful questions is the first step towards change. Questions like, “How can I make this year more powerful and successful than last year? Who do I need to become to create a thriving business? What do I need to do to create a different reality?” are a great place to start.
Other great questions include:
- How can my finances get even better?
- How can I have a money miracle?
- How can I become an even better businesswoman?
- How can I attract soulmate clients?
- How can I create an extra $10K?
- How can I connect more deeply with my clients?
- How can I up-level my finances?
- How can I move towards my desires today?
- How can I eliminate my money blocks?
- What’s the best decision I can make today with my money?
2. Go Within
In graduate school, we had a saying, “Outer experience is a reflection of inner reality.” Whenever intense emotions arise, it’s important to do the inner work to clear away limiting beliefs, fears, resistance and unhealed emotions to bring you back to balance (tapping, release techniques, meditation, etc.)
3. Nourish Your Soul
The importance of sleep and taking time off can’t be underestimated. Make sure to rest and give yourself lots of TLC. It’s easy to want to gather new information, but now’s the time to take a break and relax. Do things that feed your soul and light you up: Spend time in nature, journal, take a bath, get a massage, etc.
4. Have Fun
It’s easy to get lost in emotions or try to “fix” things, but sometimes the best thing you can do is go out and play! Spend time with friends, make love to your partner, pleasure yourself, indulge your desires and pamper yourself.
5. Hire A Coach
Perhaps it’s the coach in me, but I always feel the best place to start is seeking out a mentor who can catapult my success and show me the way.
This year, I hired a new coach to support me with my desires for 2017. Last year, I worked with a coach all year and participated in two group programs and a mastermind.
After big breakthroughs, it’s important to allow your body and mind to relax and integrate the changes you’re experiencing. Step away from “doing” and allow yourself to “be.” Usually within a day or two, you’ll feel much better and ready to take action again.
While it’s easy to assume that something’s wrong when you’re feeling out-of- sorts, it’s actually an exciting time as you’re closer than ever to your dreams!
